Today, Amazon has officially launched its Blink home security brand in Australia, with the launch of the Blink Mini 2 and Blink Outdoor 4 home security cameras.

But hang on... Doesn't Amazon own Ring? Why does it need a second home security brand at all?

Well, it seems Amazon is launching Blink for a more price-aware market. With the increasing cost of living pressures, Amazon has conducted user research that suggests that almost half of Australians are only willing to invest up to $300 per year on home security products.

While Blink has been available in the US and other markets since about 2017, the brand is launching in Australia today with two products, the Blink Outdoor 4 and the Blink Mini 2.

The Outdoor 4 is powered by two AA batteries that promise up to two years between replacement. It records 1080p HD video, has infrared night vision and offers dual-motion detection.

The Outdoor 4 camera comes with the Blink Sync Module 2, which is required to work the Outdoor cameras, and can control up to 10 cameras via the Blink app. The Sync Module 2 allows for local storage of recorded events on a USB drive, though you need to supply your own.

The other camera launching is the Blink Mini 2, an indoor/outdoor camera that offers Night view in colour and has a built in LED spotlight for a clearer image at night.

Naturally, there's a subscription as well that offers cloud backup and access to your security footage for 60 days. A premium subscription tier offers more advanced features like person detection.
