Hot on the heels of its sub-$100 AS5 4G smartphone, Aspera has just released the AS8 into the Australian wild. It has an RRP of just $149.

This unlocked 4G handset offers an Octa-Core 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM (plus 1GB virtual RAM allocated from available ROM) and runs the Android 13 Go Edition.

Just like the AS5, the AS8 offers facial recognition and a replaceable battery. You also get a fingerprint sensor and NFC, which enables contactless payments through Google Pay.

The phone's 6.3-inch screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio and offers a 1600 x 720 resolution.

On the camera front, you get 8MP and 0.08MP rear cameras, plus a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

Aspera Mobile MD Allan Robertson stated in the launch announcement that the phone is perfect for the budget-conscious.

“The AS8 is a highly featured, lower cost smartphone, which is part of our new 2023 range. As with all Aspera phones, it is aimed squarely at the budget conscious and those people who want a great smart phone experience but don’t want to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get one," he said.

"It has a high-quality feel, an HD+ display, a great camera and a long-lasting and removable battery. It even comes with a free gel case - all of which makes it terrific value at just $149.”

The phone itself is available now for $149. You can pick it up at Big W, Ritchies IGA, Seasons IGA, Freedom Fuels, Trinity Petroleum, Mobileciti, Personal Digital, Mobile Experts and selected BP service stations.

While you're shopping, you probably want to look at getting a new mobile plan for the phone as well.
