DJI's latest drone looks flipping great

DJI has unveiled the DJI Flip drone, a lightweight, foldable model with full propellor guards and 31 minutes of flight time.

The DJI Neo was without a doubt one of the best products of 2024. It is lightweight, simple to control, easy to master and does a great job taking photos and shooting video.

DJI's latest drone – the DJI Flip – looks to build on the Neo's success. Weighing in at 249 grams, it fits into the same ultra-lightweight category as the Neo.

But where the Neo was a single unit with a fixed body, DJI has created a foldable design for the Flip, allowing it to feature better camera and battery specs, without sacrificing the simplicity that made the Neo such a great product.

“Building on the success of our consumer camera drones, we are introducing DJI Flip to combine the simplicity of the DJI Neo with the stunning photo capabilities of the DJI Mini to make both aerial photography and close-up portraits accessible for everyone.”

– Ferdinand Wolf, Product Experience Director at DJI

A big part of the DJI Flip's appeal is the foldable design, which doesn't sacrifice safety. Each propeller has a full coverage guard that protects both the drone and the user, made with a unique support structure that is only 1/60th of the weight of a traditional guard.

Like the Neo, the DJI Flip can take off and land from the palm of your hand, with six on-device shooting modes to capture creative footage without using a controller.

The camera is probably the most notable difference from the Neo, being more in line with the DJI Mini. The 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor allows for 48MP photos with up to a 4x zoom, with an f/1.7 aperture and support for HDR and scene recognition to create more vibrant images.

It also records 4K HDR at 60 frames per second, with 4K/1000fps slow motion recording available as well. The 4:3 CMOS sensor is big enough to allow for 9:16 vertical cropping, so you can record videos for social media at 2.7K resolution without any special editing required.

The DJI Flip offers up to 31 minutes of flight time from a single charge, which is a significant step up from the Neo's 18 minutes, and can be controlled with or without a controller.
