It's been a few years since I played around with a Fetch TV set top box, and it's clear that things have changed significantly since then. The latest streaming device from Fetch is the Fetch Mini G5, the smallest Fetch device to date.

Measuring in at just 10 cm square, the Mini G5 can stream 4K video from your favourite streaming service, as well as offering access to free to air TV.

On the specs front, the new Fetch Mini G5 offers 4GB RAM for smooth navigation between free to air and streaming services, Wi-Fi 6 support for faster connections and fewer dropouts, plus a USB accessory port and an integrated free-to-air tuner.

It boasts multi-point Bluetooth audio, so you can pair multiple pairs of wireless headphones for a silent viewing experience. A microphone in the included remote lets you search for any show, actor or director as well.

But the big news with the Mini G5 is that Fetch has implemented the world's first hybrid RDK-Android operating system. That basically means that you will be able to access some Android apps on the platform.

While details are still a little unclear, it appears that this might include streaming apps that aren't currently available on the Fetch platform, like Kayo and Binge.

Pricing and availability

The Fetch Mini G5 is available from today, with an RRP of $149. That makes it $50 cheaper than the previous generation of the Fetch Mini as well.

You can pick the new Mini G5 up from Telstra, iiNet, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys.
