Fujifilm has dropped the latest camera in its X Series range, and it looks like a great model for content creators looking to lift the quality of their video.
It's interesting to watch the progression of mirrorless digital cameras from stills to video capture devices. With the massive rise in quality from camera phones, it's been a few years since I really got my hands dirty with a proper mirrorless camera.
I did test the Fujifilm XH2S last year, but it was a bit of a learning curve for me to get back in the swing of things.
The new X-M5 is the lightest X-Series camera Fujifilm has released, weighing just 355 grams, with a compact 111.9 x 66.6 x 38 mm frame. It boasts a back-side-illuminated 26.1 MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, and uses the X-Processor 5 processing engine to capture high quality stills and video.
Fujifilm seems to have gone out of its way to make this camera super easy for newcomers. With its subject detection Auto-Focus, the camera can easily detect a number of moving items for auto-focusing, like animals and cars, so you don't miss a thing.
The X-M5 records 6.3K/30P video , as well as 4K/60p and 1080/240P. There's also a new dedicated 9:16 short movie mode for capturing TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts effortlessly.
To help on the audio front, Fujifilm has included three microphones in the X-M5, which allow you to capture surround sound for your videos. There's also limited noise cancellation as well.
There's no in body image stabilisation, with Fujifilm instead opting for digital stabilisation, which crops in to your image to give a more stable picture.
