If you lined up the GoPro HERO 10 Black, HERO 11 Black and HERO 12 BLACK side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell which one was which. While the HERO 13 Black still retains a lot of that iconic GoPro design, the company has introduced some key external updates this year as well, including interchangeable lenses.
At its core, the HERO 13 Black is still a GoPro camera, offering 5.3K video at 60 frames per second, plus GoPro's HyperSmooth image stabilisation.
But the key development is the addition of four HB-Series lens mods, which change how the camera captures video. The lens mods are waterproof and scratch resistant with hydrophobic coatings, to help you catch clear vision in all environments.
The four mods you can buy include:
- An ultra-wide lens mod that boosts the field of view to 177 degrees, with a new 1:1 aspect ratio. This makes it ideal for cropping footage to both 16:9 and 9:16 aspect ratios, regardless of how you mount the camera.
- A Macro lens mod that can record images up to 4x closer than a normal lens. It features a variable focus ring to manually adjust the focus distance from as close as 11 cm.
- An Anamorphic lens mod that captures ultra wide angle footage with a cinematic feel. There's less distortion than traditional GoPro lenses, and you can more easily review and edit content without a lot of post-production effort.
- An ND Filter 4 pack, which helps create motion blur in your shots at varying levels. What's great about this is that the camera automatically detects when you connect a filter, and toggles into Auto- Cinematic mode to give you the best results automatically.
That all sounds good, but in this case a video is worth more than a few bullet points:
Better battery, easier mounting
In addition to the lens mods, Go Pro has also boosted its battery capacity to 1,900 mAh, giving the Enduro battery enough juice for 1.5 hours of continuous recording at 4K30 or 5.3K30 resolution.
GoPro is also introducing a new magnetic charging door accessory that lets you charge the battery magnetically without having to open up the side door at all.
Perhaps more exciting is the addition of a new quick latch mounting system. While the GoPro has the traditional mounting fingers, it also offers a range of quick latch accessories, that will allow you to quickly and easily move the camera around without having to screw and unscrew the camera each time.
GoPro HERO
While the HERO 13 Black is the flagship launch, GoPro has also introduced the new HERO camera.
Weighing just 86 grams with built-in mounting fingers, it offers 4K recording at a 16:9 aspect ratio. You can also capture 2x slow-motion videos, and grab 8MP stills from your footage.
Everything is controlled via the touchscreen or the HERO's single button, and the camera integrates with GoPro's Quik app for quick, easy editing.
