Renowned action-camera manufacturer GoPro, has launched its Quik desktop app for macOS and a new Premium+ subscription tier.

When we reviewed the GoPro HERO11 last year, the lack of a desktop version of GoPro's Quik software was definitely a disappointment, so it's great news this is now available.

The Quik desktop app enables synced editing across desktop and mobile, offering users the convenience of starting a project on one device and finishing it on another.

The app comes packed with powerful yet user-friendly editing tools, such as a beat sync feature that automatically matches edit points to the rhythm of the soundtrack.

The app also features an auto highlight editing feature, which allows beginners to create professional-looking videos without prior editing experience.

Existing GoPro subscribers can use the Quik desktop app at no extra cost and benefit from automatic camera-to-cloud upload of their latest GoPro footage, unlimited cloud storage of their GoPro footage at original quality, and auto highlight videos sent to their phones. The app also offers intuitive cloud editing and media management tools.

New premium subscription tier

In addition to the Quik desktop app, GoPro has introduced a new Premium+ subscription tier.

Priced at $169.99 per year, the Premium+ tier offers all the benefits of the original Premium subscription, including the HyperSmooth Pro video stabilisation tool for advanced users and an additional 500GB of cloud storage for footage captured with any camera.

GoPro Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman expressed his enthusiasm for the new offerings:

"“Our new Quik desktop app syncs with our mobile app and cloud, making GoPro the ultimate content creation solution for beginners and advanced creators, alike,” he said.

“Quik’s auto-editing experience represents a convenient starting point for new creators, and our more advanced editing tools and ongoing developments in AI and computer vision ensure pro-minded users will enjoy enhanced capability as we continue to update our apps.”

Pricing and availability

The Quik desktop app for macOS is available from today, and a Windows version is expected to be released later this year. The new Premium+ subscription tier is also available from today.
