With TV manufacturers pushing for bigger and bigger TVs every year, I'm starting to seriously consider moving to a short throw projector.

Samsung announced its new models at IFA, and Hisense has confirmed today that its new PX3 model will come to Australia this month.

The PX3 is the first ultra short throw projector to be "designed for Xbox". Apparently that means that it delivers seamless compatibility with Xbox gaming consoles, delivering low latency mode automatically and using smoother image processing to give a blur-free gaming experience.

You'll also be able to enjoy a 240Hz refresh rate by setting the resolution to 2K.

The PX3 can project a 4K image on a screen size of 80 inches while sitting just 11.9cm away from a wall or screen. Move it out to 46cm from the wall and you get 150 inches of picture.

"Australians are increasingly being drawn to the highly immersive nature of the big screen laser home cinema experience.

"The PX3 delivers unmatched realism, depth and exceptional picture and sound, to make watching movies, sport and streaming truly exciting and memorable. Excitingly, the PX3 now guarantees gamers an unparalleled entertainment experience in an eye-friendly, true-to-life colour and immersive gaming environment."

– Chris Kotis, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Hisense Australia and New Zealand

The projector boasts AI upscaling to turn lower-res images into something worthy of watching in 4K at 150 inches. There's a super wide colour gamut, 3000:1 native contrast ratio and a massive 2,800 ANSI lumens of brightness. The PX3 supports Dolby Vision for impressive HDR visuals, and Dolby Atmos for immersive sound.

The projector comes with built-in 50-watt front-firing Harman Kardon speakers, though I'm going to go out on a limb and say you should still invest in a solid soundbar.

Pricing and availability

Like the CanvasTV announced last week, the Hisense PX3 short throw projector is launching in Australia from late September with an RRP of $4,499.

Given the ease of setup and impressive specs, it wouldn't surprise me to see this slot right into the list of the best projectors in Australia.
