Hisense's new TV is a work of art
CanvasTV launching in Australia this month, giving you a screen of over 1000 pre-loaded artworks.
BTTR is independent, but we may earn money when you purchase through links on our site.
Samsung started rolling out its Frame TV globally back in 2017, so it is actually quite surprising that it has taken other manufacturers this long to launch a proper competitor in Australia.
Hisense appears to be up to the challenge though with the CanvasTV. Available in either 55-inch or 65-inch versions, the CanvasTV offers a Hi-Matte anti-glare display, and StyleSwap frames that can change the TV to suit any home's decor.
The television's art mode offers a collection of over 1000 pre-loaded artworks in a range of genres, from abstract and modern to renaissance styles. You can also upload your own images, so you can turn your photographs into giant artworks.
A quick press on the TV's remote will switch between iconic art and your personal pics. You do need to sign up for a free VIDAA account to be able to access the full 1000 pieces of art through the Art app though. If you don't sign up, there are only 300 pieces to use.
In order to avoid sending you bankrupt with energy consumption, the CanvasTV automatically adjusts brightness through a light sensor, and a motion sensor will turn off the TV when the room is empty.
On the tech specs side, you get a 4K QLED with Quantum Dot colour, with a 144 Hz refresh rate. There's a 2.0.2 surround sound system, but no matter what Hisense says about how immersive it is, you'll still want to buy a soundbar to accompany it.
The TV runs Hisense's Vidaa U8 operating system, which offers access to all the major streaming apps. The U8 platform is a newer version from what I tested in the U7NAU, and promises to be easier to use.
