The Nextbase iQ Dash Cam has finally come to Australia

From what I can tell, Nextbase first announced the iQ dash cam back in 2022. At CES back in January, Billboard named it the Best Vehicle Security System of the show.

But from October 28, Australia will be able to purchase the Nextbase iQ dash cam from Harvey Norman.

The iQ is, from all accounts, a big step up for dash cams, and a model destined for our list of the best dash cams. There are two models on offer with different resolutions.

The first is a 4K model, with a front recording resolution of 3840 x 2160p and a 140 degree viewing angle, and an infrared internal cabin resolution of 2560 x 1440p and a 180 degree viewing angle.

The second, cheaper model is 1K resolution, which does 1920 x 1080p resolution for both front and internal cameras.

There's also an optional rear camera, which records at 1440p with a 140 degree angle.

Unlike most dash cams, which plug into either a USB port or a traditional cigarette lighter DC port, the Nextbase iQ uses your car's OBD port, which means it can stay powered even when your car is off.

Coupled with an always-on 4G connection, this means you always have access to the camera's feed, so long as there's mobile service. Models come with a 32GB MicroSD card pre-installed.

With easy connectivity, Nextbase has packed this dash cam full of features. Among them are:

  • SmartSense Parking: This lets users to toggle remote alerts using radar-based Spatial-awareness technology. These notifications allow the user to monitor, engage and even take proactive measures to deal with an incident before it happens.
  • Guardian Mode: You can set parameters for remote alerts when leaving your vehicle with another person. Think parents letting their kids borrow the car, and watching for things like speed, aggressive acceleration or travelling outside of a certain geographical area.
  • Witness mode: This voice activated setting instantly saves a 30-minute video to the cloud and pushes a live stream notification to an emergency contact in real-time.
  • Live View: Use the iQ app to see what’s going on in or around your vehicle at any time. You can live stream the video, trigger an audible alarm, view your video history and more directly from the app.
