Why have I never seen an esky with a drawer before?
The Ninja FrostVault hard cooler keeps your food dry while keeping it cold in a "dry zone" drawer.

Pop this in the "I can't believe I never thought of that before" pile. Ninja has just launched its FrostVault Hard Cooler in Australia, and while eskies aren't necessarily high tech appliances, I love the strategic design thinking that's gone into this one.
Rather than just a big, insulated hole you throw ice, food and drinks into and watch as the ice melts and seeps into all the food while making the ice unsafe to eat, the FrostVault has a dedicated drawer for your food.
The drawer is insulated and can keep your food at under 4ºC temperatures for days, according to Ninja.
Because the drawer sits at the bottom of the box, you don't have to open up the lid to go rummaging around in the ice to find what you need, either.
Combined with the 7cm thick insulated walls, the FrostVault promises to keep your food and drinks cool for an extended period.
There are two sizes available: The 28-litre capacity fits up to 48 cans (no ice) or 26 cans with ice. Meanwhile, the 47-litre capacity fits up to 80 cans (with no ice), 50 bottles or 45 cans with ice.
