I love the idea of an outdoor wood fire pizza oven. My yard is probably a bit too small, and I'm too cheap to pay for it and too hopeless to build it, though.
But this new gas-powered pizza oven from Ooni is making me rethink the outdoor pizza possibilities of my home.
Set to launch in time for Spring in Australia, the Ooni Koda 2 Max is a gas-powered oven with a huge 24-inch cooking area, big enough to cook two 12-inch pizzas simultaneously. It offers dual-gas burners and dual-zone cooking, so your meatlovers will be nice and crisp while your vegetarian pizza is more subtlely roasted.
The Koda 2 features a 20mm cordierite cooking surface, ¼ʺ thick ceramic fibre insulation, full-width front and rear aluminium castings, a built-in commercial grade stainless steel pizza ledge and a 6 mm-thick removable protective glass visor shield.
It's burners can reach a maximum temperature of 500ºC within 30 minutes.
That's great for me, given the demands for two pizza-loving teenagers.
Another cool feature I'm intrigued by is the digital temperature hub. It's a digital display that can give real-time temperature information from either side of the Koda 2.
But it's also a connected oven, and you can set it up to monitor temperature from the Ooni Connect app for real time cooking notifications, or to remotely check the temperature.
Pricing and availability
The Ooni Koda 2 is set to launch in early Spring for a RRP of $1,499 from the Ooni website.
