It was only a couple of weeks ago that OPPO decided to go hard on durability by launching the A80 smartphone. Today, it's going even harder by bringing that focus on durability to even more affordable models in the A series.

Both the new A60 5G and the A40 are priced under $300 RRP, and offer reinforced bodies with double-tempered glass screens. They are both rated to MIL-STD-810H, and have an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.

Both phones come with a huge 5,100 mAh battery inside, which is designed to maintain at least 80% of its original capacity for over 1,600 charge cycles, or about four years of use.

The new models also support OPPO's 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging, which can fill the battery in just 75 minutes.

Cameras on the two models are the same, with a 50 MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera. Given the price points, they won't be fantastic snappers, but based on my experience reviewing the A18, it should be good enough for the odd Instagram post.

Where the two models differ is in the processor and screen.

The OPPO A60 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 Mobile Platform. It comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB of on-board storage.

The A60 5G's 6.67-inch 1604 × 720 display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, and can hit a maximum of 1000 nits of brightness.

The A40, meanwhile, has a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen1 processor running things, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on board. The A40's display is the same 6.67 inches, but with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits of maximum brightness.

Both phones offer OPPO's RAM Expansion technology, which uses free storage space to double the memory when needed.

Pricing and availability

The OPPO A60 5G is available now in Nebula Red and Ocean Blue colours, with an RRP of $299.

The OPPO A40 is a bit cheaper at $259, and is available in Starlight White and Sparkle Black.

You can pick the phones up now from OPPO directly, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys.
