OPPO's new A79 5G is an affordable phone with better speakers

Finding the right balance between your budget and your smartphone's specs is always a challenge, but the new OPPO A79 5G looks like it's going to deliver plenty of bang for your buck.

Priced at $369 RRP, the latest model in OPPO's A-series of devices offers a large 6.72-inch display with a 680 nit peak brightness level, making it easily viewable in full sunlight.

Like other OPPO smartphones, the display has 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut support, so it combines brightness with images that pop from the screen. The 1080 x 2400 resolution is more than enough to make watching YouTube or Netflix easy on the eyes.

OPPO has boosted the integrated speakers on the A79 5G, with dual stereo speakers and an ultra-volume mode. OPPO has developed noise reduction algorithms as well to help limit distortion at loud volumes, and makes calls clearer and easier to hear.

As you might expect with an OPPO phone, it also comes with the 33W SUPERVOOC flash charge technology for its 5,000mAh battery. Five minutes on the charger will get you enough juice for 1.4 hours of YouTube streaming. This was one of my favourite features in the OPPO A98 5G I reviewed last year.

On the photography front, the phone includes a 50MP AI Camera, a 2MP Portrait Camera, and an 8MP Selfie Camera. It also offers features like Portrait mode, Ultra Night mode, and Selfie HDR shooting.

The A79 5G features a 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM configuration, but OPPO offers RAM Expansion technology. This will temporarily convert free ROM space into a maximum of 4GB of RAM, to enable the phone to run more smoothly at all times.

The OPPO A79 5G is available from today at JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and the Oppo online store. It's available in two colours: Glowing Green and Mystery Black. It has an RRP of $369.
