Hot off the back of last week's PlayStation Pulse pre-order news, Sony has today confirmed that the PlayStation Portal remote player for the PS5 will go on sale in Australia on 2 February 2024.
The PlayStation Portal combines the epic DualSense wireless controller with a vibrant 8-inch LCD display, so you can play PS5 via Wi-Fi around the home.
The screen offers a 1080p resolution running at 60 frames per second, which is obviously well below the 4K output the PS5 is capable of, though will likely still push your Wi-Fi network.
Sony says you'll need at least a 5Mbps connection, but recommends a minimum of 15Mbps for the Portal to really work.
Pricing and availability
The PlayStation Portal is set to retail for $329.95 when it goes on sale on 2 Feb 2024.
You can pre-order the device from EB Games, Amazon and JB Hi-Fi.
The certainly promises to be an interesting product. The fact you will need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the PS5 you're playing on massively limits its versatility, especially in a world where Xbox Game Pass lets you play pretty much anywhere.
The price sees it compete agains the Nintendo Switch Lite, which again you can load up and take with you anywhere, playing games on the road.
But, I can also see myself using this when my wife wants to watch TV and I want to play Playstation. I definitely won't pre-order the Playstation Portal myself, but if you're excited for the product, get it quick.
