These AA and AAA batteries recharge by USB-C
At about $7.50 per battery, it makes a lot of financial sense.

I have a bag in my garage where I place dead single use batteries. I don't use a lot of AA or AAA batteries, but when they die out, I collect them knowing that one day, when that bag is a bit fuller, I'll take them to be recycled.
But the ReChargeCore batteries from Aussie company Laser are a better idea. Rated to last up to 1,000 recharges via a USB-C port on the top of the battery, the Lithium Ion ReChargeCore batteries cost just $29.95 for a four-pack, which works out at about $7.50 per battery.
That's pretty good value. Doing the math quickly – Amazon is offering a 30 pack of Energizer Max AA batteries for $23 at the moment (though price may change). That works out at 77 cents a pop.
