Samsung's loading screens into appliances to help with its AI ambitions
With its commitment to adding AI across its comprehensive product lineup, Samsung has announced it's launching more appliances with screens this year.
Samsung is going to be launching a range of appliances with integrated screens for AI this year.
This isn't like the massive vertical TVs in the Samsung Family Hub fridges. It's more subtle; a way to add a smart home control system to the home so you can control not only individual appliances, but your entire smart home from anywhere.
This year, Samsung will launch a fridge with a 9-inch AI screen, and in North America there will be an oven with a 7-inch display. We will also see 7-inch displays squeezed into the Bespoke AI Heat Pump Washer and dryer set.
Those big-screen fridges will remain, this is away to increase the interconnected smart home, as well as offering a deeper insight into the appliance.
You'll be able to control all the connected appliances with Bixby voice control, and see key information like internal temperature or washing cycle information.
Samsung is committed to continuously evolving the potential of home appliances to operate beyond consumer expectations and be accessible in new ways to unlock more value, convenience and joy for Australians, everyday.
Pairing AI with advanced screen technologies across a broader range of home appliances in the kitchen and laundry, we’re extending the ability for Australians to securely access and optimise their connected home from more centralised locations while adding entertainment features to unlock more value and joy from individual appliances.
– Jeremy Senior, Vice President - Consumer Electronics, Samsung Australia
There's also a map view feature, which will let you monitor and control all the connected appliances from a single screen, like adjusting the air conditioner from the fridge.
While it's designed to work with Samsung appliances, because it's all powered through SmartThings, you'll also be able to control third party smart home products that connect to the SmartThings ecosystem.
I think it's definitely an interesting idea, given Smart Home control just hasn't been solved properly without expensive equipment.
