With an starting price of $249, the Samsung Galaxy A05s is designed as the ideal starting point for a low-cost Galaxy phone.

The newest entry to the popular A series of more affordable Android handsets, the Galaxy A05s is powered by the 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680, and comes in both 64GB and 128GB versions.

The 6.7-inch screen offers a 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate with a nice, wide viewing angle.

It's powered by a 5,000mAh battery, which should be enough to get you through a day, depending on usage.

The camera system is also way better than you would expect for a phone at this price point. You get a triple lens camera system, running at 50.0 MP + 2.0 MP + 2.0 MP. Those two smaller lenses are designed to help you get more detail and up close macro shots.

Pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy A05s is available now at selected retailers in both 64GB and 128GB variants. The 64GB model has an RRP of $249, while the 128GB version will sell for $299.

Samsung is promising two years of software updates for this budget phone. That makes it a sound investment for both kids getting their fast smart device, or as an affordable replacement for a busted device.

It probably won't hit the top of our list of the best Samsung phones, but it promises to be a great cheap phone.
