Samsung unveils its newest projectors, The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7

Why drop thousands on a mid-size TV when you can get double the size?

One product that has been on my review wishlist for some time is the Samsung Premiere short throw projector. Samsung has just announced the latest version, and I'm definitely putting my name down to test them.

Both the new models offer 4K and support HDR10+ for clear, vivid images. They both support Samsung's AI upscaling technology and vision booster, to ensure even lower-quality content looks incredible when boosted to screen sizes over 100-inches on the diagonal.

Powered by Samsung's Tizen OS, the projectors function just like a Samsung TV, with direct access to your favourite streaming services. There's also Samsung's Gaming hub, so you can stream games without a console.

When not being used as a projector, the new Premiere projectors act as smart speakers, offering hands free voice control and access to a range of music applications.

Like this year's Samsung TV range, the projectors also support Smart Things directly, so you can control your smart home from the screen and access security systems without having to leave your couch.

The Premiere 9 vs The Premiere 7: What are the differences?

Aside from price (which hasn't been announced yet), the Premiere 9 is clearly the more premium model. It uses triple lasers to project up to 130-inch screen sizes, vs the 120-inch size of the Premiere 7.

The 9 also produces better colour reproduction, covering 154% of the DCI-P3 standard vs 100% for the Premiere 7.

The 9 also offers a brighter display, able to pump out 3,450 ISO lumens vs the 2,500 of the 7.

Both projectors offer integrated speakers - though you should really be using a soundbar instead -  The Premiere 9 features 40W 2.2.2 channel up-firing speakers, while The Premiere 7 includes 30W 2.2 channel speakers.

Pricing and availability

At this point, there's not a lot of information other than the fact the projectors will start rolling out "over the coming months".

It would make sense for it to be before Christmas though, so finger's crossed.
