I only reviewed the first generation of the OpenRun Pro a few months ago, but there were a few key areas the product could be improved.

Its proprietary charger and its overwhelming vibration and audio leakage at high volumes held back an otherwise impressive pair of headphones.

Shokz has today announced the OpenRun Pro 2, and it looks like the company has taken all of the feedback to heart while creating this newer model.

At the core of the upgrades is the arrival of Shokz' 10th generation of bone conduction technology, which it calls DualPitch. Effectively, DualPitch is a blend between traditional bone conduction and the air conduction approach Shokz uses in its OpenFit and OpenFit Air products.

With this new tech, the bone conduction manages the mid and high-range audio production, and the air conduction looks after the bass. This combo means that the overwhelming vibration at louder volumes just isn't an issue anymore.

Shokz has also adjusted the band slightly, using a nickel-titanium frame for a secure fit, yet reducing the clamping force by 16% over the previous model. At just 30 grams, its exceptionally lightweight as well.

The new running headphones are IP55 water resistant making them perfect for runners, while Shokz has also boosted the battery performance in this model, offering 12 hours of playback on a single charge.

5 minutes on the charger also results in 2.5 hours of playback if you just need a quick bit of juice before a run as well.

On that note, the OpenRun 2 has also ditched the proprietary charger for a USB-C port, so it's easy to charge. It's also added multi-point pairing for using with multiple devices.

Pricing and availability

The OpenRun 2 will hit stores on September 5, with pre-orders available from later today.
