Back in May, Sonos updated its mobile app to prepare for the launch of its first headphones product, the Sonos Ace.
It was a big deal. Sonos was rebuilding the whole app from the ground up, looking to modernise not just the look and feel of the app, but also consolidate the outdated code and 20 years of technical debt it had built up.
But it didn't go to plan. The app rollout was rushed, and ultimately a big step backwards for Sonos users. Sonos ended up removing key functionality in its attempt to overhaul the user experience, without squashing major bugs in the app.
