Sony is launching impressive true wireless audio at an affordable price with its WF-C510

11 hours of listening time, multi-point Bluetooth and ambient sound modes for just over $100.

Sony has been making earphones for almost as long as I've been kicking around this planet, and with age comes experience.

Already offering some of the best wireless earbuds in the country, Sony has just announced the (catchily named) WF-C510 true wireless earbuds. These are the smallest closed-type earbuds Sony has ever made.

There's nothing overly revolutionary about these earbuds on the features front. You get 11 hours of music playback time from a single charge, while five minutes of quick charging gives you up to an hour of additional listening time.

Multi-point connectivity lets you connect to two devices simultaneously, with an ambient sound mode passing through external audio so you can still hear your surroundings while the music plays.

There's also a "voice focus" mode that boosts human voices while suppressing noise, making conversations easier.

The earbuds support Sony's 360 Reality Audio, which offers a spatial surround sound experience with compatible music sources (which sadly doesn't include Apple Music by the looks of it).

The earbuds are IPX4 rated for sweat resistance, and come with a compact cylindrical charging case.

Pricing and availability

Sony is launching the WF-C510 in four different colour options: blue, yellow, black and white. They will hit shelves in October, with pre-orders available from today.

The RRP for these earbuds is just $109.95. Given the starting price for AirPods 2nd gen is still $219, this is a really interesting proposition. I'm trying to get my hands on a pair for review to see if the performance can match the promise.
