I unbox the Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni

I've tested more robot vacuums than I care to admit over the past couple of years, and Ecovacs stands comfortably as one of the better brands in the space. 2023's X2 Pro Omni is currently resting at the top of my best robot vacuum list, despite being over 12 months old.

But I think its successor, the X5 Pro Omni, might steal its crown.

I've only just finished setting up the X5 Pro Omni, but that process was mostly seamless. Ecovacs has changed up the packaging of the X5 as well, using more recyclable cardboard and less styrofoam, which is a pleasant change.

While the quick mapping function is quick – my 3 bedroom home was mapped in about 10 minutes, the map itself still needs some editing. The first version combined two bedrooms, the kitchen, family/dining and hallway as a single room.

I've noticed this happening more and more in recent vacuum reviews – despite the smarter AI-driven object recognition, actual mapping quality has considerably decreased.
